[Character name] Mako
[Age] 18
[Canon] Avatar: The Legend of Korra
[Point in time taken from canon] Post-Episode 8 "When Extremes Meet"
[Background]
History here!
[Personality]
A lot of Mako's personality stems from the fact that he watched his parents die when he was eight years old, leaving him and his then six year old brother alone in the world. Because of this fact, he became very over protective of Bolin, because that was all he had left. He shielded his brother from the horrors of the world, taking care of him. Most of his actions are thinking for the best for Bolin, even when it's not necessarily the best for himself. He did this as they lived on the streets for so long, and continued to do so as the brothers lived in the attic of the Probending Arena. When the roof over Bolin's head came into question, Mako didn't hesitate to pick up another job, even if it was hard work. He's very clingy to money, for this reason. They don't have a lot, so he cherishes what he does have. Probending is important to him because of this, because the prize money would give him a chance to make things better for him and his brother.
It was due to the fact of his parents dying that Mako was forced to mature at a young age. Without parents, him and his brother were on the streets, forcing him to not only care for himself at a young age, but his brother as well. He's always felt responsible, which leads to his focus and loyalty. Because he was forced to mature at such a young age, he's pretty awkward in a lot of situations. Even Asami mistakes his actions, thinking he was refusing a new scarf for one reason, when in reality, he clung to the one he had because it was his father's. But his maturity comes in to play when he's able to admit when he's wrong and apologize.
To anyone that doesn't really know him, Mako may come off as a jerk. He is, in some ways, but it mostly is due to his focus. Before a match, or during training, Mako is extremely set on his goals and he doesn't appreciate being distracted from them. It isn't necessarily winning that's important, but the fact that winning can makes things better for Bolin. He even fussed at Bolin for bringing Korra into the pregame waiting area, continually dissing her while she was there. Even when he does compliment her, it isn't heartfelt, almost as if he didn't really mean the words he said. But when it counts, and she proves he's wrong about her, he doesn't hesitate to tell her so.
Once you actually get to know the male, he's fiercely loyal to his friends, but more importantly, his brother. When his brother's safety comes into question, he immediately goes looking for him. He refuses to stop at nothing to save him, risking his own bending as him and Korra both go into the Equalist's meeting. As his friendship with Korra develops, he begins to compliment her more in training and such. Even when Asami's dad came under fire, he refused to believe it until he had proof. Caring and compassion isn't beneath him, as he's very caring for his brother, and he even develops a rather mushy relationship with Asami.
His relationship with Korra is complicated to begin with, but it only gets more complicated as Asami enters the series. Korra and Mako didn't get along well when they first met, mostly due to his jerk comments, but they did bond when they rescued Bolin together. And then Mako meets Asami. He's immediately infatuated with her. Yet, while he begins to date Asami, he gets jealous when Korra spends him with Bolin, yet he denies any feelings for her. It isn't until Korra kisses him that he admits he has feelings for her. He says he likes both her and Asami and he's really confused, but he actually ends up angry over Korra's actions because they upset Bolin so much. They eventually do end up settling their differences, agreeing to be friends for the time.

- If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not?
Only if Bolin is there. As long as he's here, I'm not going anywhere.
- You're asked to take someone out for a date. Do you agree? If so, describe what you would do. If not, tell why.
I have a girlfriend. She may not be here, but I'm not that kind of guy. I won't cheat on her, just because she's not around.
- Murder. What is your opinion?
[His eyes narrow slightly, because this is personal.] Taking a life is a terrible thing, and the people that do it don't realize just how they're affecting so many lives.
- If you could change your current lifestyle or job career, what would it be?
Considering the Probending Arena got shut down... [He pauses.] I just want a stable home for my brother, where food isn't hard to come by and we're not afraid of ending up back on the streets.
- You have two options: either save your friend who is hanging from a cliff, or chase after the bad guy who put them in a position. If you choose the former, the bad guy will get away and it will be hard to catch him. If you choose the latter, the cliff will crumble and the friend will fall to the spiky rocks below. What do you do and why?
What kind of question is that? Of course I'd save my friend! If there's a chance to save them, I'd rather do that when I can catch the guy later.
- You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
Considering lives are probably at stake? Staying focused is the most important. Even if lives aren't, why bother if you aren't going to do it to the best of your abilities?
[Third Person]
A week. It had been a week since him and Bolin had woken up in this strange "dream world." A week since they met the Avatar before Korra, the previous Fire Lord, and a whole lot of other people that shouldn't even be alive. It was weird, to say the least, but Mako was adjusting as well as anyone brought to a strange new world.
During that week had spent a lot of time exploring, getting to know the layout of the place, but also how things worked. He even started looking at potential jobs, because there was only so long the money they were originally given would last and he wanted to be ready. A first thought was working at the local power plant, but learning they didn't run off lightning bending kind of threw that option out.
He honestly wasn't sure what to make of the place. Nothing was the same. There were a few benders here, like him and Bolin, but most everyone else were...well, nonbenders. Others had abilities, some like bending, but not the same. Honestly? It made him feel out of place, even more so than he ever felt as a street rat in Republic City.
The only consolation was the fact that he had Bolin here with him. He was so grateful for that, because without Bolin, he had no idea what he'd do. It was nice to have Korra around, too. Familiar faces were always great, and he'd be lying if he said he didn't still have some feelings for her.
But then there was the fact that Asami wasn't there with him. Now that he wasn't happy about. I mean, come on, they were dating. He really liked Asami, and she needed him now more than ever. He still could hardly believe what her father had done. It had been so hard for her, he knew that, and now she was left all alone back home? That wasn't right.
"Come on place, if you're gonna drag me here, at least bring everyone I care about." He grumbled to himself, hoping every day she'd arrive. It seemed there was a pattern to it, at least that's what people told him. So he watched the comms (at least the best that he could. He still didn't get these weird things), hoping she might show.
Until then, he'd try to enjoy the place the best he could. On the plus side, no Amon. So there was no more living in fear of losing their bending, no more having to worry about Equalists. He did have Bolin and Korra, so pretty much his two bests friends. His teammates. And hey, there were enough benders that they could even pick back up Probending. The idea of teaching the Avatar and the Fire Lord how to Probend sounding kind of fun. So maybe this place wouldn't be so bad. He just wished Asami would show up sooner than later, and everything would be prefect.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I've play an ATLA character here before, but I love the series, and now that we have a bigger cast, I can't resist adding to it!
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] Be active! It's no fun when you have players than are never even there.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] Already here~
